The Shimano SH-WR42 Women’s Shoes are built to bridge the gap between a comfortable introductory shoe and a high-end race shoe. You may find a carbon-soled shoe stiff and uncomfortable, and if that sounds familiar, the forgiving Dynalast sole gives you a responsive platform, without the foot pain that can come with an excessively stiff sole. Two hook-and-loop straps provide a customizable fit, while the ratcheting buckle locks your foot in place. To maximize durability, Shimano chose stretch-resistant synthetic leather for the upper. Mesh panels were added to improve airflow, which keeps your feet cool and dry on warm days. Two hook-and-loop straps offer on-the-fly adjustability, while a ratcheting buckle on the top strap provides extra security. Think of the WR42 as a slightly higher-end version of Shimano’s recreation-focused WR32. The construction and sole are essentially identical — where they differ is in the WR42’s ratcheting system. By improving your heel hold, it enhances your efficiency, which you’ll notice if you’re steadily improving your fitness, and accordingly, the intensity of your rides. As you’d expect, Shimano built the SH-WR42 shoe on its women’s-specific last, which helps hold your foot in the most efficient pedaling position possible. The last sits on a Dynalast sole, which provides a degree of flex, helping to maximize comfort. The durable rubber heel lugs offer a bit more cushion than you’ll typically find on a more race-specific shoe. And to give you the widest range of pedal options, the shoes are compatible with both 3-hole road cleats and 2-hole mountain cleats.
