A rubber compound developed for rock climbing, without a doubt, gave Five Ten an upper hand when they entered the mountain bike market. That, however, is only one aspect that keeps shoes like its Freeride Element a top choice for flat-pedal riders. Other contributing factors to Five Ten’s omnipresence in lift lines and jump parks is its approach to upper construction, a supportive heel cup, and added impact protection. Take a look at the BMX-inspired Freeride’s action leather. This isn’t a glorified skate shoe, it’s intended for the abrasion and harsh conditions the gravity sect demands. Double stitched for durability, Action leather is positioned where pedals, cranks, and trail-side obstacles will do the most harm to lesser shoes.
